🧵 A Step-by-Step Guide to Seamlessly Heat-Pressing Waterproof Zippers onto Mattress Fabrics
🛠 Tools You’ll Need
High-temperature heat press (with adjustable temperature)
Waterproof zippers (TPU or PU laminated)
Hot melt adhesive film (e.g., TPU tape)
Mattress fabric (knit, non-woven, spacer mesh, etc.)
Protective film or heat-resistant sheet
🔍 Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Materials
✂️ Cut the zipper and adhesive tape to match your design length. Make sure your mattress fabric is flat and clean.
Step 2:Positioning
📐 Lay the zipper face-up, aligned on the edge of the fabric. Attach the hot-melt tape to the back. Secure ends with clips or heat tape.
Step 3: Heat Pressing
Temperature Set:160°C–180°C
Time set:10–15 seconds
Pressure: Medimium stead pressure
Hot pressing sequence：Slowly advancing from one end to the other
🔥 Set the heat press to 160–180°C. Apply steady pressure for 10–15 seconds along the zipper. Move gradually to ensure uniform bonding.
Step 4: Cooling & Setting
❄️ Let the laminated section cool naturally for 1–2 minutes. Avoid moving or folding it during this time.
Step 5:Final Inspection
Gently close the zipper to confirm that there is no foaming and no degumming.
Check whether the heat sealing line is flat and firm
Waterproofing testing (water spray ) is possible
✅ Zip and unzip to check for smoothness. Inspect the bonding line. You can test with a quick spray of water for leaks.
📌 Pro Tips
TPU film has good stickiness, and it is recommended to operate with anti-stick cloth.
It is not recommended to continue hot pressing at too high temperature to prevent the fabric from discoloring or foaming.
You can try one positioning + two light presses to improve the firmness.
🧠 Use a heat-resistant cloth for cleaner pressing. Avoid prolonged high heat. Try a two-pass press method for extra durability.
